City of the Dead

La Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires is no doubt the most beautiful cemetery I've seen. It contains the graves of some of the most important Argentines, including Eva Perón, Raúl Alfonsín, and several presidents of Argentina. The cemetery contains many elaborate marble mausoleums, decorated with statues, in a wide variety of architectural styles. Each mausoleum bears the family name etched into the facade; brass or bronze plaques are added to the front for particular family members. The cemetery is laid out like a well planned city. Neat city blocks with 90 degree corners are well kept and covered in stone and concrete. There are street names on every corner, and even a town center. While most of the mausoleums are in fine shape and well-maintained, others have fallen into disrepair. Several can be found with broken glass and littered with rubbish.
