Rocinha

Rocinha is the largest favela in Rio de Janeiro. It is the most developed favela in Brazil and has lots of shops, schools, gyms, medicine stores and even a free public wifi. Most of the buildings are made of concrete and has basic sanitation, plumbing, and electricity. I stayed with a friend in the favela for a few days while in being in Rio, and never before have I seen such a beautiful chaos. The view from his house was mesmerizing, especially at night, when thousands of lights lit up the whole neighbourhood. A well kept secret is that the best view of Rio de Janeiro is from the top of the mountain in Rocinha. From there you can see the Christ, the lagoon, the sugarloaf mountain and even Ipanema.
