Ilha Grande is a paradisiac island a couple of hours by car from Rio de Janeiro. The only way to get to the largest settlement on the island, called Vila Abrão, is by boat from mainland Brazil. There are no private cars nor roads on the island, so hiking or boat is the way to get around. There are a great variety in day trip trails all over the island, and there is no shortage of areas excellent for snorkeling, kayaking, sailing and diving. Island life is pretty sweet, the tempo is relaxed and the atmosphere welcoming.
